Getting Published
Last night Lama Phurbu Tashi explained how his book on vegetarianism got published. He wrote an essay for an animal rights group in Dharamsala explaining the reasons why a Buddhist should be a vegetarian. His Holiness the Dalai Lama read they essay and sent Lama a letter endorsing the book along with a check to have the book published. This was totally out of the blue, Lama wasn't expecting it. So he used the money to have three thousand copies of the book printed, which he gave away. Later, Eric, an American living at Bokar Rinpoche's monastery translated the book into English. Here's a photo of Lama and Eric.
The guru yoga that Khenchen composed has the following sentence:
Lord Vajradhara, Jigten Sumgon, you sit on a seat of the ten strengths, four fearlessnesses, and eighteen unmixed dharmas.
These lists are straight out of the Abhidharmakosha and it's bit surprising to see this bit of scholasticism wedged into a devotional prayer. Ithink it shows the high value Khechen places on the intellectual side of Buddhism.
